DESCRIPTION:
APW - Elgin, H.Z. Culver, low serial #1048, 15J, 18S, coin silver OF recase, bow with very attractive integrated curved chain guards, fancy blue, pink, and white enamel dial with stylish Arabic hour numerals in radial orientation, gold foil decoration between hour numerals, KWKS (a key is included with this lot as pictured), gilt mvt, s#1048. A notably early example; the "H.Z. Culver" along with the very similar grade with shorter signature of just "Culver" comprised Elgin's second production run which began at serial number 1001 and extended to serial number 1800.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, darkening of gilt tone, some scattered surface spots and short fine to micro-fine scratches, oxide spot to regulator at portion of its attachment loop to balance cock; excellent dial with scratch above 8, some perimeter scrape outside minute chapter at 6; excellent hands, hour and minute of mismatched styles, minute with slight bend, seconds-hand is slightly long; case shows very light wear, an attractive darkened patina, rear initial has some crudely scribed initials marked to its surface, ding to upper rear in area right of pendant, good overall engine turning and engraving detail though with some reduction at shoulder; tight bow; glass crystal with some scattered short fine scratches.
